Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the art and science of restoring and maintaining harmony to the vital energy of life.
Acupuncture is rooted in ancient Asian philosophy, which views a person as an energy system in which body and mind are unified, each influencing and balancing the other. With a 4,000-year evolution, it is the oldest continuously developed medical system on Earth.
Unlike conventional medicine which attempts to isolate and separate a disease from a person, acupuncture emphasizes a holistic approach that treats the whole person. Acupuncture offers excellent tools for healing disease, maintaining optimum health and preventing illness. It is effective therapy for most physical, psychological and emotional problems.
Acupuncture needles are much smaller than hypodermic needles. They are virtually painless, and usually result in a feeling of extreme relaxation and well being. Acupuncture treatment may include needling, cupping, moxibustion/heat therapy, guasha/shonishin, massage and qigong/energy therapy. Educating patients in self care is also integral to treatment.
The World Health Organization currently recommends acupuncture for over 100 conditions, including: Allergies, depression/anxiety, headache, insomnia, high-blood pressure, knee pain, back pain, neck pain, sciatica, addictions, side effects of cancer treatment, cancer pain, menstrual and fertility problems, digestive problems, autoimmune conditions and many others.
